3 Springs Farm---where honey is found & Katahdins abound

 3 Springs Farm

Is a 100 + acre farm located in  Fairmont,  WV – just ~1 ½ hours south of Pittsburgh, PA and ~2  hours north of Charleston, the capitol of WV.

More than half of our farm is wooded and includes several  streams and two ponds. This helps to support the native  wildlife in our area, as conservation is an issue we are  committed to.

Our animals are naturally and humanely raised on pasture – which is our farm operating philosophy. We primarily  practice rotational grazing and use parasite resistant stock.

We started in 2006 raising Katahdin hair sheep, added Tennessee “fainting” goats in 2008 and plan on adding steers in the spring of 2010.  Guinea fowl were added in 2008 as a way of naturally controlling ticks and bugs on the farm. The chickens also help to naturally control bugs – as well as to provide farm fresh eggs.

Other animals on the farm include our  barn cats (Stormy, Sarah & Oreo - abandoned or adopted from local shelters), one Walker Hound mix dog, Freckles (another abandoned adoptee) and Jeanie II – our sheep & goat white "guard" llama.

 History

The original 36+ acre property was purchased in the mid 1970’s by Barbara and Lee Lipscomb (picture at right),  who then moved to the farm in the early 1990’s. Their hard work improved the property - by adding a pond, an irrigation system, building a home & work buildings, and cleaning up the land.Barbara and Lee

Their care and stewardship of the property left the land much improved by the time they sold the farm to us.  It was a privilege to get the land and start our dream – thank you Barb & Lee!   They then moved to Pennsylvania in 2007 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  Our Tennessee goats were added because of Lee – he grew up on a farm in Tennessee and had an uncle that owned such goats.

Since the original purchase, additional acreage has been added to the farm. This has helped further our mission to raise animals naturally and humanely on pasture and help preserve wildlife.
